The message covers sexual sins (adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness), religious superstitious works including idolatry and sorcery (explained as manipulating the soul through environment or appearance, such as music, to create a false sense of closeness to God), and heresies as deliberate separation. It then addresses self-seeking and self-gratifying works: enmity (hostility), strife (underlying hostility causing division), jealousy (an inner burning emotion to possess what others have, distinct from envy which resents others having something without desiring it oneself), and selfish ambition (conduct motivated by personal advantage rather than truth).

Jealousy and self-seeking are linked to earthly, sensual, and demonic wisdom (James 3), producing confusion and worthless actions, often leading to boasting against the truth. Examples include the high priest’s jealousy leading to imprisoning the apostles (Acts 5) and the silversmiths’ inner burning anger in Ephesus (Acts 19). Thumos (inner burning anger, mistranslated as outbursts of wrath in some versions) is distinguished from wrath; it controls the mind like intense anger and is carnal, seen in Romans 2, 2 Corinthians 12, and Revelation 12 where Satan exhibits great indignation upon being cast down.

Selfish ambition appears in church contexts, such as seeking higher positions like elder boards for status rather than pastoring, or preaching Christ for money or to afflict others (Philippians 1). Divisions involve severing groups, often over titles, practices like tongues, or personalities; believers are urged to note and avoid those causing them (Romans 16). Envy is malicious resentment toward others’ success without desiring it, seen in Christ’s betrayal (Matthew 27), unrighteousness lists (Romans 1), and false teaching (1 Timothy 6, Titus 3). Senseless slaughter (broader than human murder, including purposeless killing for gain) flows from the heart (Matthew 15) and appears in unrighteousness and persecution of the just (James 5, Hebrews 11).

Drunkenness refers to intoxication that distracts from reality, not limited to alcohol but including religious craving for saints’ blood (Revelation 17); it marks those walking in darkness (Romans 13, 1 Thessalonians 5). Revelry involves boisterous, lewd parties with strong desires and idolatry. “And such like” indicates the list is not exhaustive, covering any mind-manipulating practices like drugs.

Those characterized by practicing these works will not inherit the kingdom of God, but this addresses habitual, defining lifestyles, not struggles. Christians, born of God, cannot habitually sin (1 John 3:9) because they are light in the Lord (Ephesians 5) and must cast off works of darkness (Romans 13). Victory comes not by directly fighting the sin nature but by knowing positional truth (Romans 6: knowing the old man was crucified, reckoning oneself dead to sin and alive to God), and yielding to the Spirit’s good desires through walking by the Spirit, which renders the sin nature ineffective and produces newness of life.

    • The flesh uses this intense burning emotion in a negative manner.

    • The silversmith in Ephesus stirring up the city (Acts 19:28).

    • Is an aspect of unrighteousness (Romans 1:29).

Those who are characterized by practicing these things will not inherent the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21).

• Paul is describing someone who is characterized by these practices.

• We are to cast of the works of darkness (Romans 13:12).

Our Defense Against the Desires from the Flesh

The purpose of the book is to bring blessing (happiness) to those who read, hear, and keep its words, as the time is near (Revelation 1:3). It is addressed to the seven churches (assemblies) in Asia, which represent seven periods or characteristics of the Church throughout history. Most of these assemblies have been present across church history, though the Ephesus assembly is no longer present in the same form.

Revelation 1:4 extends grace and peace from “Him who is, who was, and who is to come” (referring to Christ, supported by John 1:1, Hebrews 7:25, and Acts 1:11) and from the seven spirits before His throne. Pastor Walker explains the seven spirits as the seven ministries of the one Holy Spirit, not seven separate spirits or angels. This is shown by their connection to Christ (Revelation 3:1, 5:6), their role in the church, and the fact that grace and peace come only from God, never from angels.

The seven ministries of the Holy Spirit are:

• Spirit of holiness (sets us apart, Romans 1:4)

• Spirit of life (frees us from the law of sin and death, produces desires contrary to the flesh, Romans 8:2; Galatians 5:17)

• Holy Spirit of promise (seals us as a guarantee/down payment of inheritance, making loss of salvation impossible because the Godhead cannot be divided, Ephesians 1:13)

• Spirit of truth (guides into all truth, teaches by comparing spiritual things, John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:13; 1 John 4:6)

• Spirit of grace (manifests God’s benefits without merit, Hebrews 10:29)

• Spirit of glory (enables proper understanding of God and living out our identity in Christ, 1 Peter 4:14)

• Spirit of prophecy (testifies of Jesus, Revelation 19:10)

These ministries directly relate to the church because Christ possesses the seven spirits, and they are pictured as the seven eyes and horns of the Lamb (Revelation 5:6). The Holy Spirit indwells and abides comfortably in believers (1 John 2:27), unlike the Old Testament where He came and went. He teaches us to abide in Christ, not to bypass pastors and teachers.

Continuing in Revelation 1:5, grace and peace also come from Jesus Christ—the faithful witness (Hebrews 2:17, 3:5), the firstborn out from the dead (Colossians 1:18), and the ruler over the kings of the earth. “Firstborn” denotes preeminence and position, not origin (Hebrews 1:6; Romans 8:29). The church is the assembly of the firstborn, registered in heaven (Hebrews 12:23), and believers will be conformed to Christ’s image (Romans 8:29; 1 John 3:2).

The sermon traces the final week: Jesus’ triumphal entry on a donkey fulfilling Zechariah 9, which Israel failed to recognize despite clear prophecies (Micah 5:2 on Bethlehem, 2 Samuel 7 on the Davidic throne, Psalms 2 on ruling the nations, Daniel 9:26 on the Messiah being cut off). He details the betrayal by Judas (motivated by greed, with Satan entering him), the agony in the Garden, the illegal nighttime trial before Annas and Caiaphas, the morning council where Jesus declared “I am the I AM,” the trials before Pilate and Herod, and the crucifixion on Wednesday.

Pastor Walker explains the two deaths on the cross—spiritual separation from the Father (the single stripe of Isaiah 53, three hours of darkness) paying for Adam’s trespass, followed by physical death and the shedding of blood for remission of sins—fulfilling Isaiah 53. He notes the veil tearing, burial before sunset Wednesday, the high Sabbath Thursday, spice preparation Friday, weekly Sabbath Saturday, and resurrection Sunday morning. He highlights that before Christ, all went to Sheol/Hades (with paradise for the righteous), and Christ’s body saw no corruption.

The message concludes with the gospel from 1 Corinthians 15: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day according to the Scriptures. Salvation is by grace through faith alone—believing God’s word, not works, repentance for salvation, or any exchange. The resurrection provides overwhelming evidence of these truths.

The message centered on what Christ’s sacrifice accomplished. Key points included:

• The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

• Jesus is the propitiation (satisfaction of God’s holiness regarding sin).

Supporting passages explained the results of the cross:

• Romans 5: Christ died for the ungodly while we were sinners, bringing justification by His blood, reconciliation to God, and salvation from wrath.

• Ephesians 2: Salvation by grace through faith (not works), creation of one new man (no Jew/Gentile distinction), access to the Father, and peace through the cross that broke down the dividing wall.

• Ephesians 1: Redemption and forgiveness of sins through His blood according to the riches of grace.

• Hebrews 9: Detailed comparison of Old Testament tabernacle sacrifices (temporary, repeated, for the flesh) versus Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice. As High Priest, Christ entered the heavenly Holy of Holies with His own blood, obtaining eternal redemption, purging the conscience from dead works, and putting away sin. Without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. The temple veil tore at His death, signifying access to God.

• Romans 3: God set forth Christ as propitiation through faith in His blood, demonstrating God’s righteousness in justifying believers.

• Matthew 27: Darkness, Jesus’ cry of forsakenness, and the tearing of the temple veil from top to bottom showed God’s outraged holiness satisfied and separation from the Godhead during the bearing of sin.

• 1 Corinthians 15: The resurrection is essential to the gospel. Without it, preaching is vain, faith is empty, and believers remain in their sins. Christ was raised because of our justification.

• Romans 4: Jesus was delivered for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

Pastor concluded that God is fully satisfied with Christ’s sacrifice. The resurrection proves the sacrifice was accepted and effective. Next time the study will address confession of sin and practical victory when believers do sin.

Eternal life is in the Son (1 John 5:11-12), and 1 Corinthians 2 highlights the Holy Spirit’s role in revealing God’s truths, contrasting the spiritual person (who discerns and manifests Spirit-led things) with the carnal (fleshly) believer who exhibits envying, strife, and divisions like infants in Christ. Paul could not feed the Corinthians meat because they walked as mere men. The Christian life is mental: a frame of mind that abides in Christ (John 15:4-5), where the branch bears fruit only by remaining in the vine—”without Me you can do nothing.” Good works and fruit are the product of abiding and being spiritual, not the cause.

Humans consist of body, soul, and spirit; only the spirit is saved at the new birth (John 3:5-6). The mind interfaces with both soul and spirit, so distinguishing them matters. Christians can still sin and be carnal (1 John 1), as the Corinthians demonstrated through fleshly behavior. Victory over the sin nature comes through reckoning oneself dead to it and alive to God, then yielding to Him (Romans 6:6-14). Victory over Satan involves resisting with the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Victory over the world means not directing agape love toward it (1 John 2:15-16). Distinguishing these three enemies is crucial because each requires a different response: reckon/yield for the sin nature, resist for the devil, and refuse to love for the world.

Salvation has three tenses: past (justification by believing the gospel, 1 Corinthians 15; sealed with the Spirit, Ephesians 1:13), present (working out salvation as God works in us to will and do His pleasure, Philippians 2:12-13; being filled with the Spirit rather than carnal, Ephesians 5:18), and future (redemption of body and soul at the rapture, 1 Peter 1:3-9). Past salvation guarantees future salvation; the present focuses on living spiritually now. The series will examine these distinctions in detail, emphasizing a mental frame of abiding in Christ under grace to manifest new life and bear fruit.

The purpose of Revelation is to show servants of Christ what must soon take place, signified by an angel to John. John bore witness to the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Blessed are those who read, hear, and keep the words of the prophecy. Christians are not appointed to wrath, so the Church should not fear the events described.

John received the message while exiled on the island of Patmos because of his testimony for Jesus, likely under Emperor Domitian (81-96 A.D.), who persecuted Christians for refusing to call him lord and god. Domitian, the last Flavian emperor, was assassinated in 96 A.D., after which Eusebius records John was released and returned to Ephesus.

The revelation comes from Jesus Christ, received from God the Father, for His servants, indicating things that must take place shortly—either in time or speed. John wrote what he saw and bore witness. Blessed are those who read and guard the words, as they bring contentment and the Church is protected from wrath.

The letter is written to the seven churches. It opens with God described as the One who was, who is, and who is to come—referring to Christ, who existed before incarnation, lives today through resurrection, and will return.

Revelation: Given to Christ by God the Father to Show His Servants the Things that Must Take Place

1. The Author and Time of Writing

   1. 96 A.D.

      1. John was a disciple of John the Baptizer (John 1:35).

      2. John followed Christ after John the Baptizer declared He was the Lamb of God (John 1:36).

Pastor Luther Walker continues teaching from Galatians 5:19 on the works of the flesh, clarifying they are unrighteous works, not identical to sin. Sin is lawlessness—an exterior action—while unrighteousness is broader, encompassing internal thoughts. He references 1 John 3:4, 1 John 5:17, and 1 Corinthians 6 to distinguish these concepts.

Drawing from 2 Peter 1:2-3, he emphasizes that God has given believers everything needed for life and godliness through experiential knowledge of Christ. Christians face three enemies: the sin nature (rendered ineffective at salvation per Romans 6:4-6, 11), Satan, and the world system. Victory comes by reckoning oneself dead to sin and alive to God, yielding members to righteousness rather than fighting desires directly with “thou shalt not,” which strengthens the flesh.

He explains the full armor of God (Ephesians 6) as a mental process of aligning thoughts with truth: girding the loins with truth, breastplate of Christ’s righteousness, feet shod with the gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit used defensively against lies. Believers are saints, not sinners saved by grace, to maintain proper identity in Christ.

Returning to Galatians 5, Pastor Walker covers sexual works of the flesh (adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness) and religious works: idolatry (rooted in covetousness, mere sticks and stones), sorcery (religious superstitious awe, often using environment, substances, or manipulated emotions to feel closer to God). He critiques contemporary Christian music for using build-and-release structures, repetition, and emotional manipulation to simulate encounters with God, contrasting this with true worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). Humans consist of spirit (rational center), soul (emotional center), and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). The soulish (natural/psuche) man cannot receive things of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14), so worship must be rational—giving God credit for who He is and what He has done (Revelation 4:10-11)—not emotion-led. Emotions may follow but must not lead. Praise is confessing/speaking the same thing about God’s character (Hebrews 13:15). Music is acceptable when it focuses the mind rationally, as in speaking to oneself in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:18-19).

He addresses heresies/factions (sects or divisions, 1 Corinthians 11:19; 2 Peter 2:1), warning against false teachers and divisive arguments over words that produce strife rather than godliness. Self-seeking works include enmity (hostile rebellion, especially carnal mind against God, Romans 8:7) and strife (underlying hostility, seen in Romans 1:29-31 and Philippians 1:15 where some preached from envy). Such division is unprofitable (Titus 3:9); believers should reject divisive persons after warnings.

Pastor Walker encourages consistency in applying truth: reckon death and resurrection with Christ, yield to the Holy Spirit’s desires, and focus on doing right rather than battling “do not.” Struggles glorify God uniquely now, before full resurrection removes unrighteousness forever. Extra notes provide deeper study for personal application against specific fleshly desires.

        • CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) is centered around direct, personal, experiential encounter with God’s presence through music.

          • They use a build and release emotional arc to foster intimacy, awe, surrender, and a corporate encounter with God.

          • Simply, repetitive harmonic structure.

          • Dynamic builds and emotional contours by layering drums, guitars, pads/synths).

        • Praise is the fruit of our lips confessing His name (Hebrews 13:15).

        • There is nothing inherently wrong with music

          • When music is used to make you feel closer to God, it is manipulating your emotions.

          • Good music focuses the mind on the truth, primarily invoking a rational response: It does not make you feel closer to God; it reminds you of how close you are to God.

        • The Spiritual Christian will sing and make melody in his heart unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:18–20).

  • Heresies—a deliberate choice to separate, factions

    • The sect of the Sadducees (Acts 5:17).

    • Factions among the Corinthians saints (1 Corinthians 11:9).

    • False teachers bring in destructive factions (2 Peter 2:1).

    • The flesh uses this intense burning emotion in a negative manner.

    • Out of a feeling of resentment comes the desire to have what another person possesses.

    • Relates to worldly wisdom (James 3:13–16).

  • Inner Burning Anger—an internal heat of passion or anger.

    • The silversmith in Ephesus stirring up the city (Acts 19:28).

    • The inner burning anger of Satan when he is cast out of heaven (Revelation 12:12).

    • Comes from being carnal (2 Corinthians 12:20).

  • Selfish Ambition—a disposition or conduct motivated by personal advantage rather than truth.

    • Will not obey the truth (Romans 2:8).

    • A result of being carnal (2 Corinthians 12:20).

    • Some preach Christ out of selfish ambition (Philippians 1:16).

    • Relates to earthly, demonic wisdom (James 3:14–16).

  • Division—the fracturing of a group by severing.

    • We are to note those who cause divisions and avoid them (Romans 16:17).

  • Envy—a malicious resentment towards the success or prosperity of another person.

    • Christ was handed over to Pilate because of the envy of the leaders of Israel (Matthew 27:18).

    • Those obsessed with debating produce envy (1 Timothy 6:4).

    • The lifestyle of the Gentiles involves envy (Titus 3:3).

    • Envy will impact the spirit of the unsaved (James 4:5).

  • Senseless slaughter—killing for no purpose or for gain.

    • Proceeds out of the hearth of men (Matthew 15:19).

    • Is an aspect of unrighteousness (Romans 1:29).

    • The slaughtering of men and women by unbelievers (Hebrews 11:37).

  • Drunkenness—intoxication

    • A conduct of those who walk in darkness (Romans 13:13).

    • Used to distract the mind from reality (1 Thessalonians 5:7).

    • This type of intoxication is not limited to alcohol (Revelation 17:6).

    • The result of a carnal lifestyle (1 Corinthians 5:11; 6:10).

  • Revelry—Boisterous festivities.

    • Done in the darkness (Romans 13:13).

    • Involves lewdness, strong desires, drunkenness, and abominable idolatries (1 Peter 4:3).

Those who are characterized by practicing these things will not inherent the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21).

From Colossians 2:9-10, in Christ dwells all the fullness (pleroma) of the Godhead bodily, and believers are complete (plerao – filled with no lack) in Him, who is head over all principality and power. This completeness is positional, not physical; in Christ there is nothing lacking. Ephesians 4:7-13 explains Christ ascended to fill all things and gave spiritual gifts for perfecting the saints, edifying the body, and bringing believers to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 1:22-23 describes the church as His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 3:16-19 prays for believers to be strengthened and filled with all the fullness of God through knowing Christ’s surpassing love. Philippians 4:19 promises God will supply all needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Paul warns in Colossians 2 against being spoiled by philosophy, vain deceit, or human traditions that distract from walking in Christ as received. Such worldly ideas (e.g., self-esteem focused on self rather than Christ) contradict positional truth, where believers esteem others better than themselves (Philippians 2:3) and walk worthy with humility and unity (Ephesians 4:1-6).

Believers are unified as one body in Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 teaches that by one Spirit all (Jew/Gentile, slave/free) are baptized into one body with many members and diverse gifts, yet one body; God arranges members as He pleases, and all parts are necessary with mutual care—no schism, all suffer or rejoice together. Romans 12:4-5 echoes that many members form one body in Christ. John 10:16 and John 17:20-23 (Jesus’ prayer) speak of one fold/one shepherd and believers being one as the Father and Son are one, made perfect in unity so the world may believe. Ephesians 2:11-15 shows Gentiles, once far off, are now made one new man with Jews through Christ’s blood, breaking down the dividing wall. Galatians 3:28 declares no Jew/Greek, slave/free, male/female—all one in Christ Jesus. This unity is practical: members care for one another and endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).

Believers possess liberty in Christ. Galatians 2:4 mentions false brethren spying out the liberty in Christ to bring into bondage. Galatians 5:1 urges standing fast in the liberty wherewith Christ made us free, not entangled again with the yoke of bondage (law). Romans 6:6-7, 18, 22 explains the old man crucified so the body of sin is destroyed; believers are freed from sin nature, now enslaved to righteousness, yielding members as servants to God for holiness. Romans 8:1-4 declares no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus; the law of the Spirit of life has freed from the law of sin and death, enabling fulfillment of the law’s righteousness by walking after the Spirit. Galatians 5:13 warns not to use liberty as an occasion for the flesh but to serve one another through love. Liberty is freedom from the sin nature, condemnation, and law—not freedom to sin, but empowerment under grace to live victoriously in the position Christ provides.

Positional truth is practical: what is true of believers in Christ enables walking in completeness, unity, and liberty now, supplying every need and transforming daily Christian life.

The discussion centers on dispensations (also called administrations), distinct from ages. Dispensations are periods where God demonstrates truths about humanity to humans through a master (God), a steward, a household, and specific rules. Ages focus on revealing truths about God to intelligent beings (including angels) and are not always tied to time. Dispensations require: a master (God), one steward per dispensation (responsible for distributing the master’s instructions), a household (which may be all humanity or a specific group like Israel), and unique rules. The same steward is not reused after failure, as failure ends the dispensation. Rules should not be mixed between households; e.g., Christians in the dispensation of grace are not under the Mosaic Law (Ten Commandments), which is rational but for the unrighteous—believers live by a higher standard of love and possess Christ’s righteousness (Romans 7:14; 1 Corinthians 1:30). Applying law to grace creates apparent contradictions, such as hungering for righteousness (Matthew 5 Beatitudes) when believers already have it.

Scripture explicitly mentions the dispensation of grace (Ephesians 3:2, given to Paul for the church) and the dispensation of the fullness of times (Ephesians 1:10, the millennial kingdom where all things are gathered in Christ). Hebrews 3 illustrates Christ as master over His house, contrasting with Moses as a faithful servant in his house. There are seven dispensations total, though not all are titled in Scripture; titles derive from their content:

1. Dispensation of Innocence (Genesis 1:26–3:19): Adam as steward in the garden; household of two (Adam and Eve); rule: do not eat from the tree of knowledge (dying you shall die). Ends with sin; Adam (not deceived) chooses independently, bringing death and separation from God. They lose their garment of light.

2. Dispensation of Conscience (post-Genesis 3:20 to Genesis 7:24, ~1,700–1,800 years): Cain as steward; rule: do good and rule over the sin nature (Genesis 4:7, first reference to sin nature as desiring to control). Ends in total evil (thoughts evil continually), leading to the flood as mercy. Conscience remains today but is not the Christian’s guide—believers use spiritual training and truth (Romans 14:23 warns against doubting/justifying actions against faith).

3. Dispensation of Government (Genesis 8–11:32, ~100 years post-flood): Noah as steward; rules include be fruitful, eat meat (but not blood), capital punishment for murder (Genesis 9:6), and judicial system. Ends at Tower of Babel with confusion of languages and division of earth (Peleg).

4. Dispensation of Promise (Genesis 12 onward, to Exodus 19): Abraham (then Israel) as steward; focuses on guarding God’s promises to Abraham’s seed.

5. Dispensation of Law (Exodus 19:9 to John 12:50): Israel as household; rules via Mosaic covenant. Jesus lived under it. People promised to obey all God says.

6. Dispensation of Grace (John 13:1 to Revelation 3:22): Paul as steward; household of grace/church; live by grace, not law. Current dispensation; ends due to human failure to live by grace.

7. Dispensation of the Fullness of Times (millennial kingdom, 1,000 years): Christ as master; resurrected David as steward; perfect environment, yet sin nature leads to final rebellion. Ends dispensations.

Dispensations do not always follow immediately; gaps can exist (e.g., post-innocence, post-government). Reformed/covenant theology (which sees the church replacing Israel with one covenant) contrasts with dispensational distinctions and influences some translations to obscure the term “dispensation.” Proper division avoids contradictions and clarifies doctrine (information to learn and practice) vs. information to learn only. Pastor Walker introduces the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19–21) as desires produced by the sin nature, one of three enemies Christians face (along with Satan and the world system). The sin nature attacks through fleshly desires, Satan through rational lies and discouragement (countered by the armor of God), and the world system pacifies the sin nature to exert control.

The works of the flesh are distinguished from sin: unrighteousness is the broader category (including mental attitudes), while sin involves actions. He references Romans 1:29–31 to show unrighteousness includes both actions (murder, deceit) and heart attitudes (haters of God, proud, unloving).

Victory over the sin nature comes from Romans 6: knowing the old man was co-crucified with Christ so the sin nature is rendered ineffective, reckoning oneself dead to sin but alive to God, and yielding members to righteousness instead of unrighteousness (not merely saying “no” to sin but actively pursuing righteousness).

Pastor Walker begins detailing the works of the flesh, starting with sexually related ones:

• Adultery (sex outside marriage covenant)

• Fornication (sex outside marriage entirely; Christians must flee it)

• Uncleanness (sexual perversion)

• Licentiousness/lewdness (lack of moral restraint, often lavish unrestrained lifestyle)

These originate from the flesh, not Satan, though Satan can exploit them. He stresses fleeing fornication because it sins against one’s own body and contradicts God’s will for sanctification.

He then moves to religious-related works:

• Idolatry (covetousness; serving man-made gods, including money or false systems)

• Religious superstitious awe (often translated “sorcery”; using chemicals, music, garments, rituals, or environments to simulate closeness to God or appear spiritually superior; linked to pharmacy and manipulative religious practices)

Pastor Walker warns against false religions, prosperity teaching that turns grace into licentiousness, and emotional manipulation through music or settings that falsely imply closeness to God (since the Spirit indwells believers constantly). The message concludes noting more works of the flesh (hatred, strife, jealousy, selfish ambition, envy, drunkenness, revelry, etc.) will be covered next time, emphasizing identifying fleshly desires correctly so the proper defense—walking by the Spirit and yielding to righteousness—can be applied.
