Anthropology, Part 6 — The Fall: Event, Curse, and Hope

Billy Myron

This session reaches the midpoint of our anthropology series by examining the Fall in Genesis 2–3. We first note humanity’s original state of innocence—without the knowledge of good and evil—and the single command given to Adam. We then walk through the temptation and Fall, highlighting the biblical distinction between Eve’s complete deception and Adam’s willful disobedience (2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Timothy 2:14). Romans 5 clarifies related terms—sin, trespass, and transgression—and why Adam’s act brought death to all. We survey the curse’s consequences on the serpent, the woman, the man, and the ground, the loss of access to the tree of life, and creation’s ongoing groaning (Romans 8:19–23). Finally, we look ahead to the lifting of the curse and renewed access to life (Revelation 22:1–3), with a preview of next week’s focus on death, sin, image, and likeness, and millennial implications (Isaiah 65:20).
