Christians' Bold Access to God: Priests, Temple, and Spiritual Sacrifices | Positional Truth Explained

Positional Truth

Billy Myron continues his series on positional truth, grouping topics related to closeness to God. This session examines believers’ access to God through Christ, contrasting it sharply with the limited access under the Mosaic Law.

Under the Law (e.g., Leviticus 16), access to God’s presence in the Holy of Holies was extremely restricted: only the high priest could enter once a year on the Day of Atonement, following elaborate rituals (including sacrifices of bulls and goats, casting lots for scapegoats, and creating a cloud of incense to avoid death from seeing God’s glory directly). This highlighted separation and the temporary, repeated nature of atonement.

In contrast, the New Testament (especially Hebrews) presents Christ as the ultimate High Priest—not after the order of Aaron but Melchizedek—who offered Himself once for all through His own blood, securing eternal redemption. His sacrifice was perfect and final, unlike annual animal offerings. Believers now have bold, confident, direct access to God: they can “come boldly to the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16), approach with full assurance (Hebrews 10:19–22), and have “boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him” (Ephesians 3:12). This access is “by one Spirit unto the Father” (Ephesians 2:18) and is positional—guaranteed in Christ, not dependent on performance or temporary lapses.

Further, believers themselves are described as the temple (naos, specifically the Holy of Holies where God dwells): the Holy Spirit indwells them permanently (1 Corinthians 3:16–17; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Ephesians 2:21–22). Unlike the Old Testament temple where God’s glory could depart, the Spirit never leaves believers.

Christians are also a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2:5, 9; Revelation 1:6), built as a spiritual house on Christ the living cornerstone, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus. These include:

  • The sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15, the fruit of lips confessing His name).

  • Doing good and sharing/fellowship (Hebrews 13:16).

  • Presenting bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1).

  • Generous giving/support (Philippians 4:18, a sweet-smelling sacrifice).

These replace Old Testament animal sacrifices, as Christ’s one-time offering handled sin definitively. The session emphasizes that positional truths (e.g., being a temple, priests with direct access) counter doubts about identity, relationship, or closeness to God. Believers enjoy unprecedented intimacy and privileges—not because of personal merit, but because they are in Christ, immersed into His body. This makes the current dispensation unique compared to the Law’s hierarchical, limited access.
