Positional Truth #9: Redeemed & Seated with Christ – Victory Over Sin Nature

Positional Truth

Billy Myron continues his series on Positional Truth (9th installment), focusing on what is true of believers in Christ according to Scripture. He emphasizes possessions and positions we have in Christ, including having died, been buried, raised, and now being seated with Him. The lesson covers two main topics: redemption in Christ and being co-seated (seated together) with Christ in the heavenlies.

Redemption is presented as freedom purchased through Christ’s blood from slavery to the sin nature. Drawing from Romans 6–7, believers were formerly slaves to sin, sold under sin, free from righteousness, but are now freed from the sin nature’s dominion, made alive to God, and enslaved to righteousness. Key passages include Ephesians 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:30, Romans 3:24, and Colossians 1:14, all stating redemption through His blood, bringing forgiveness of sins/trespasses. This positional reality enables victory over the sin nature by reckoning oneself dead to it and alive to God, yielding members to righteousness rather than sin.

The second focus is being co-seated with Christ at the right hand of God. The right hand signifies a place of privilege and authority (illustrated from Mark 10, Psalm 110 quoted in Mark 12, Acts 7 with Stephen’s vision, and Hebrews 1). Ephesians 2:6 states God co-raised and co-seated believers in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:20 places Christ at the Father’s right hand in the heavenlies, far above all rule and authority. Colossians 3:1–2 instructs believers, since they are risen with Christ, to seek and set their minds on things above where Christ is seated, not on earthly things, because their life is hidden with Christ in God.

Additional points include: all spiritual blessings are ours in the heavenlies in Christ (Ephesians 1:3); our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20); believers are fellow-citizens with the saints and household members of God (Ephesians 2:19). Positional truth is not merely academic—it should transform thinking, frame of mind, and behavior. By reckoning these realities (dead to sin, alive to God, seated above, focused on things above), believers gain practical victory and align their perspective with their position in Christ. Salvation is by grace through faith, not works, making good works possible rather than earning salvation.
